A portrait of four remarkable philosophers
The “Landscapes” publication was produced in association with an exhibition of the same name located in Deutsches Haus at New York University. The production contains a series of seven colour photographs by Elias Wessel which portray the Russian city of Kursk in an unusual and creative presentation. The photographs depict a series of “landscapes” as striped colour gradients and are differentiated only by a series of numbers I to VII. The peculiarity and rationale, according to the authors, is that these images present an accurate reproduction of the mood at the time of recording.
To present the photographic imagery in the most optimal context, a hardcover and layflat binding solution was selected. A square format restricts the landscape but provides the images and photographs with a sense of serenity and calmness. To protect the book from scratches the full cover area was matt cellophaned. The book design was undertaken by Hamburg’s Factor Design and produced by Nino Druck. Through the complete “Landscapes” process from book production to exhibition runs a consistent feel and essence which adds to the success of the project.
