Print and Media Technology Students from the Media University have designed and implemented a high-quality new edition of Kafka's "In the Penal Colony" as part of a one-year project. The new edition should offer the reader an extended reading experience beyond the literary level. The goal was realized through photographic and cinematic staging as well as the careful selection of materials.
The result has a lot to offer both inside and out. The hardcover was covered with a supple fabric and finished with a silver hot foil on the spine. Inside content pages were screen printed to allow for a higher colour transfer and to create a tactile font. In addition, there is a folding flap with laser die cutting to underline the atmosphere in the story. For the binding, a thread binding with alternating colours of black and white was used. The paper used throughout the contents was Metapaper EXTRASMOOTH Warmwhite 150gsm. An amazing book implementation that offers new discoveries on every page.
